Baptism
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. - 2 Corinthians 5:17
Baptism is one of the most significant steps you'll ever take as a follower of Jesus. It's not what saves you—only faith in Christ does that. But it's how you show the world what's already happened in your heart.
Here's what baptism represents:
- Death to the old. When you go under the water, you're symbolizing that your old life—your sin, your past, everything that held you back—has died with Christ on the cross.
- Resurrection to the new. When you come up out of the water, you're declaring that you've been raised to new life in Jesus. You're a new creation. The old is gone. The new has come.
- Public commitment. Baptism is your way of saying, "I'm not ashamed of the gospel. I'm not hiding my faith. I'm all in with Jesus, and I want everyone to know."
Jesus commanded it. The early church practiced it. And we get to continue that sacred tradition today.
If you've placed your trust in Christ, baptism is your next step. It doesn't matter if you became a believer yesterday or decades ago—if you haven't been baptized, now is the time.
